Dryer thermostat WE4M181 is used on GE and Hotpoint Dryers

 

This dryer control thermostat is located in the airflow. It cycles the heater to control the internal drum temperature. The typical clothes dryer operating temperature is between 140 to 160 degrees Fahrenheit. When the vent is restricted, no air flows past this thermostat and it will not cycle. That's when the dryers high limit thermostats and thermal fuses are activated.

 

The center post 3/16 inch terminals on the top of the WE4M181 control thermostat are connected to a tiny internal heater inside the thermostat. This allows the manufacturer to apply heat and fool the thermostat to cycle early, reducing the internal drum temperature for the permanent press and delicate cycles.
