How does a microwave door monitor switch work?
A microwave door monitor switch is called a monitor switch because it monitors whether or not the microwave door is open. It is a normally closed switch and the switch contacts are opened when the plunger on the switch is depressed by the door latch assembly. In most cases, a microwave door monitor switch is in series with the electrical supply line and the microwave main fuse. It is designed to blow the fuse if the microwave door primary and secondary interlock switches fail applying voltage to the magnetron with the door open. The monitor switch prevents the microwave from operating with the door open in the event of interlock switch failure.
