3949247 Top load Washer Lid Switch Replacement

This replacement switch for 3949247, is used on Whirlpool, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Roper, Estate, Jenn Air, Sears and some Maytag top loading washers, compact washers and laundry centers.

How to install replacement lid switch 3949247,

 

Before you begin unplug the washer from the electrical supply.

 

First remove the top console where the timer is located. Depending on the model washer you have, you will have to either remove the end caps from the console to gain access to the two screws that hold it in place, or the screws will be visible on the back of the console at the bottom.

 

After the screws are removed, slide the console forward to release it from the notches on the washer top that hold it in place.

 

Now separate the wire connector that connects the lid switch wires to the harness.

 

Next, remove the two heavy duty retaining clips that secure the washer top and cabinet to the back of the washer. Insert a heavy-duty screwdriver into the slot and rotate the clip up.

 

Next pull the cabinet up and forward to release it from the clips on the washer base that hold it in place.

 

Lift the washer lid to expose the two screws that hold the defective lid switch in place.

 

Install the new lid switch, tighten the screws and reverse the procedure above to put the washer back together.
