279816 Thermal Fuse Kit

Dryer thermal fuse kit 279816, also know as a dryer thermal cut-out is used on Whirlpool, Kenmore and KitchenAid dryers. The kit includes the high limit thermostat and the thermal fuse. If this thermal fuse is bad you need to check for a restricted dryer vent and make sure the heater is not shorted to the metal case.

 

How to check for a shorted dryer heater.
If the heater is shorted to the metal case, 120 volts will be applied to the heater in the off cycle and it will get hot. Remove the back of the dryer and plug the dryer in, but do not turn it on. If the heater is shorted it will heat up. Now don't be a nitwit and touch the heater case while standing on the basement floor in your bare feet!
